Good Friday Worship
April 2, 2021
First United Methodist Church, Mission, Texas
“The Seven Last Words of Christ in a Tenebrae Service”
Prelude “Away in a Manger/Old Rugged Cross”
Trio of Gary Leatherman, Dan Darnell and Pastor Bill Duke
*Call To Worship
And this is the judgment, that the light has come into the world, and we loved darkness rather than light.
God is light, in whom there is no darkness at all.
For God sent the Son into the world, not to condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through him.
Everyone who does evil hates the light, and does not come to the light. But all who do what is true come to the light.
Come let us worship in spirit and in truth.
*Hymn “When I Survey the Wondrous Cross” #298
(Procession of the Cross as hymn is sung)
Responsive Reading from Psalm 22 #752
Prayer of Confession
Most merciful God, we your church confess that often our spirit has not been that of Christ. Where we have failed to love one another as he loves us, where we have pledged loyalty to him with our lips and then betrayed, deserted, or denied him, forgive us, we pray; and by your spirit make us faithful in every time of trail; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
