Rev. Bill Duke
Raised in Devine, TX, Pastor Bill used to play 'Church' with his friends, with himself as the pastor. This love of God still shows through in everything he does.
With a wife, two daughters, and one granddaughter, he still finds time for outreach in the form of everything having to do with our church. He can be found at just about every event we have - from every committee meeting to every youth function and outreach program. He is active in Emmaus, Kairos, and Epiphany programs, youth camps, and any other outreach program we support.
When one of us is in the hospital, or otherwise in need, we often wake up to find him praying at our bedside. Since he has been with us, no one has gone without his comfort and support in their time of need.
Pastor Bernard Garzon
Pastor Bernard Garzon was born in Bogota, Colombia and was married to his lovely wife, Ilma, 39 years ago. They have four daughters and ten grandchildren. He has been a pastor for 30 years, the last 14 of which he has been with the United Methodist Church.
His last posting was in San Antonio. He now is shared by us and San Pablo. He is in charge of our 5:00 PM Spanish language service, and has already started a Bible Study on Thursdays at 7:00 PM in the Chapel. He will be looking at developing other activities and programs for the Spanish speaking members of our Church family.
Please come join him in worshiping the Lord, as well as to say welcome to him and his family.
Merryann Palmer, Administrator
Merryann was raised in Grand Rapids, MI, then moved to Raleigh, NC, and finally to Mission, TX. She has 2 sons, both former US Marines, 5 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren (no - she's not THAT old) She retired from the US Postal Service, where she had several positions, the last being 15 years in IT. She then started a company doing traffic surveys, which she sold when she and her husband decided to travel.
She subbed as our Administrator twice before deciding to take the job on full time. She is looking forward to helping make things easier on the Pastor and assisting the congregation in any way she can.
Dan Steenken, Music Director
Dan not only is the pianist (as he says - who needs an organ when a piano can sound this good?), he is also our choir director. His beautiful tenor voice can be heard each week at our 9:00 Praise service, as well as when he gives the choir a rest and does the anthem solo at the 11:00 service.
In addition to working with us, he also teaches at one of our local high schools, and is instrumental in their annual musical theatrical production.
Come and hear a concert every week as he not only entertains our ears, but our hearts, with his inspirational renditions of both classic and modern spiritual music.
Ruth Ann Hudson - Children's Director
Ruth actually worked for Mission FUMC in the early 1990s. Since then, she has been youth and children's director at other Methodist churches in the area. She is a Phys. Ed. teacher at a charter school in McAllen and brings a great deal of experience and enthusiasm to her position.
Veronica Lee, RN - Wesley Nurse
Veronica began her nursing career 24 years ago in hospital nursing. Her first nursing assignment was orthopedics, which she loved. After moving to the Valley and while assigned to the general Medical Surgical floor she was quickly offered a position as inpatient /outpatient diabetic educator as well as running the diabetes support group for a local McAllen hospital. Veronica has had many roles since then including school nurse, outpatient clinic manager, home health nurse manager, and youth corrections case manager. Her first degree is in Biology and she pursues her interest and passion in that field by devouring nonfiction books and keeping 6 aquariums of varying difficulties. Only a little bit of reason (and a sane husband) keeps her from indulging her love in more exotic pursuits. She is married and has two sons, and is still hoping for a pony for her next birthday.
Maria Alas - Custodian & Audio Visual Tech
Maria has been with us since 2000, keeping all of our buildings clean, picking up after us, setting up for most of our events, and generally doing more than one person would seem to be able to do. THEN when we added audio visual capabilities to our worship services, she learned that too! She is truely a multi-talented lady and we are blessed to have her as part of our staff.
